May 3
Hello friends and family of room 78!
In class
We have
continued to build our understanding of addition and subtraction through games
and word problems. We are working with
numbers below 20.
This
week we were focusing on our feelings.
We have identified several different emotions and what we do when we
experience them. Students have been
working on helping each other experience positive emotions and noticing when
others are not having a great time. We
watched this video created by a former teacher at Cranston to explain emotions
and our control over them.
During
word work we continued to work with letter blends sh and ch. Students have been learning some new poems
featuring many sight words and several new words. It is great to see their confidence growing
when reading poems for the class.
In Science we have continued to study living and non-living things. Students have created many art pages about the life cycles of various living things. We are looking forward to learning more about living things at the zoo on Tuesday.
In-line Skating
We will
be doing in-line skating lessons once a week for the next 4 weeks.
It is
best for students to bring and wear their own helmet if they have one.
All students must wear socks.
Volunteers are required to help
students get in and out of their equipment. The dates and times are as
follows; May 10 9:05-9:50 am, May 13
9:05-9:50 am, May 21 9:50 – 10:35 am, and May 30 9:05 – 9:50.
Please
let me know if you are available to help volunteer.
Here is a link to a video that
will help orient you and your student with the program.

to volunteer, it should be a great day.
Don’t forget to pack a healthy lunch with limited garbage. Students will
be responsible for carrying their own backpacks with lunch and water bottle
inside. Volunteers are welcome to meet
us at the zoo or join us first thing in the morning and take the bus.
