Hello friends and family of room 78.  We did a lot of work this week and the students are ready for a weekend break!

We learned a new reading strategy called Picturing Penguin.  When we don’t know a word we are reading we can try to look at the picture for a clue.

In Math we worked on finding as many answers to a question as we could by drawing pictures and making a chart as a class.  (see pictures below).

In Science we continued to talk about colour and made Primary colour monsters in our Visual Journal.  Ask me about my monster.

Next week we will be learning some new words and practicing with them all week.  The words are; red, blue, yellow, in, it, is, on. 

Remember, library is on Wednesday so please return books before then.  Have a wonderful weekend!!

Hello friends and family of room 78! In class We have continued to build our understanding of addition and subtraction through games and word problems.   We are working with numbers below 20.   This week we were focusing on our feelings.   We have identified several different emotions and what we do when we experience them.   Students have been working on helping each other experience positive emotions and noticing when others are not having a great time.   We watched this video created by a former teacher at Cranston to explain emotions and our control over them.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3bKuoH8CkFc During word work we continued to work with letter blends sh and ch.   Students have been learning some new poems featuring many sight words and several new words.   It is great to see their confidence growing when reading poems for the class. Hello friends and family of room 78!  Every Wednesday we will be having library exchange.  Students are allowed to take out 2 books, one for home and one for school.  We ask that they are returned back to school for the following week's book exchange.  Tomorrow will also be Fun Lunch so if you ordered, just send snacks to school.  If you want to order fun lunches, please check the Heathy Hunger section of the school web page.  Stuffy day will be on Thursday, students should bring only one stuffy and we suggest it is not the utmost favourite stuffy students own in case something should happen to it while at school.  Please ask your students what they have been writing about in their writing journals and what they have been doing in Math.
